Today is the day! Heir of Promise is less than half a year away, and it’s time to reveal the cover and the blurb. I’m so excited! I felt it would be appropriate to share the story of how this book came to be, but feel free to skip to the cover and blurb!
The Backstory
In October of 2018, I took part in an annual drawing challenge with my sister. Partly inspired by her OC, I designed my first true character. A little made-up creature named Neoda, he became very special to me.
In January of 2019, I decided to give little Neoda a friend: a black wolf with rainbow wings named Saka. I practiced drawing these two while my mom read to me for homeschool. Before long, the two multiplied into many new characters, all connected through a story forming in my mind.
Between 2019 and the end of 2020, without a laptop of my own, I wrote Saka’s story on my mom’s laptop. Over 60 chapters, Wings of a Hero totaled 101,000 words.
When we moved, I set the story aside for a time to work on other projects. Nevertheless, it remained deep in my heart.
In August of 2023, I felt God telling me to let go of the projects I’d been working on since then. A little voice inside reminded me of Wings of a Hero. But, tired of projects that just hadn’t been working out as well as I wanted, I cried with tears of joy and asked God if this was really his will. I wanted some sure knowledge, some sure sign that I could hold, because I knew if I doubted I would never finish it.
When I did my devotions not long after, on August 26th, I read a prayer in the devotional Lessons from Peter by Allen Jackson. It talked about using God’s gifts to serve Him. The prayer said, “Forgive me for the times when I have selfishly lived my life, forgetting the grace that was poured out for me. Your grace has carried me through many difficult seasons. Now, let me show grace to those who need it today.”
The theme of Wings of a Hero is grace.
I cried.
I immediately began plotting, developing characters, and planning my story. By the end of September I had a plot document for the series that was practically ready for the rough draft.
In November I started my website.
On March 23, 2024, I finished my rough draft at 46,461 words.
On June 7th, I got an Instagram account to start marketing and finished my book cover after 8 hours of work.
On June 12th, I finished my first and second revisions at 57,302 words.
Now I’m almost halfway through editing.
And it’s hard. Editing has been perhaps the most difficult, painful, doubt-filled part of the process. It’s giving your work to someone and letting them strip it bare. It’s being awakened to your short-comings. But my writing has become miraculously better for it.
I can’t imagine where I’d be if He never showed me what path to take. I would have given up long before now. But God is my helper, and he has given me courage in the hardest times.
I’m excited for whatever else He has for me.
Wings of a Hero is my middle grade Christian fantasy series, and Heir of Promise is its first book!
The Cover—IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!

Death stalks him.
The only wolf of his pack to be born with wings, Saka seeks to abandon his constant torment of a family who’s harassed him since birth.
But when he kills his brother in a fit of rage and flees his family’s vengeance, he learns that being on his own is far from the glorious life he envisioned. The rest of the world schemes not only to ruin his life, but to tear off every last piece of his sleek black fur.
All except for one pink wolf who blossoms amidst adversity.
Bella teaches Saka that his wings are not just props on his back, but the call to a higher purpose. Alongside the Resistance, he’s thrust into war. It’s the perfect opportunity to make up for his mistakes—if he can manage to defeat the evil King Moaphu.
Will Saka be able to make amends for killing his brother?
Can he be the hero Bella says he is?
With the entire continent looking to him, will the Great One come to his aid to unify the land, or will they crumble under Moaphu’s paw?
